Artist Carol Goldmark has always used flowers, both fresh and dying, in her work. But it wasn’t until after a near-fatal traffic accident years ago “that the meaning of my work was revealed,” she said.

“The flowers are a metaphor for life and death,” said Goldmark, who keeps vases of fresh and dying flowers in her studio at all times as a reminder of the life cycle.

“I use that image or concept in all of my work.”
